St Francis College-Mariannhill held a two-day mini prize-giving ceremony in which top achieving learners were recently recognised for their first term academic excellence. The event was held at the school patio to ensure strict compliance with COVID 19 regulations and protocols: wearing masks and maintaining appropriate physical distancing.
On the first day, Grades 11 and 12 top Achievers were awarded their badges of academic excellence, and on the following day was the turn for Grades 10 and 9 top achievers. In order to qualify as top achiever a learner had to obtain 75% and above in all subjects. The rationale behind is to instill positive competition and discipline amongst learners of all grades in their academic work. Meanwhile, Grade 8 top achievers’ awards will be conducted when they return to school for contact lessons. The school Principal Ms Njapha said badges issued to top achievers are won for a term only. “A learner who becomes top achiever for Three Terms in succession will keep the badge for ever”, she concluded.
